Born and raised in rural Kentucky, my creative inclinations were supported from an early age by a family of farmers and social workers. I am interested in the ability of visual art to translate feeling and instinct. The work I create is influenced from a spontaneous place that absorbs the information that I have come in contact with - that collages and attempts to understand psychological relationships as well as those between the physical and immaterial worlds. This process involves overlapping images of landscape, subatomic particles, and the tissues of the body. The mysteries of anatomical complexities provide my inspiration, as well as the undercurrents of emotion animating them. A recent series involves portraits linked with landscapes in an exploration of identity; the subject of each portrait was asked to paint their face as a silent, expressive signature. When I am not painting I seek to deepen my understanding of life through music, travel, knowledge, people, service work and the seeking of thrills.
